Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship 2027 in Japan for international students are below:
- Applicants must be nationals of a nation with diplomatic ties to Japan (JSPS handles Palestinian and Taiwanese researchers similarly).
- Within six years of the fellowship’s start date, candidates must have earned their doctorate. It makes no difference if the applicant works a full-time job or not.
- Those who have already been awarded and started a fellowship through the JSPS Fellowship Program for Research in Japan are ineligible.
- Persons who are Japanese citizens or foreigners with permanent residency in Japan are not eligible.
- Researchers who completed their PhD within six years, minus time spent on maternity and/or parental leave. (Every four weeks of leave is counted as one month, and any additional weeks are counted as one month.)
- A fellow must present the PhD degree certificate or diploma before the fellowship begins (this is not required while applying).
