Applications are now open for the Wang Gungwu Visiting Fellowship 2026 in Singapore. International applicants from around the world are encouraged to apply for this fellowship opportunity. Selected fellows will travel to Singapore, with all major expenses covered by ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute.
After completing the fellowship, researchers may continue contributing to ISEAS Yusof Ishak Institute and become part of the Wang Gungwu Visiting Fellows network, connecting them with regional scholars and academic professionals across Asia.

Financial Benefits
- Successful applicants for the Wang Gungwu Visiting Fellows Program receive
- round-trip economy travel between their home country and Singapore, as well as
- a fixed monthly stipend (which includes a housing subsidy) for the duration of their fellowship at ISEAS.
- During their fellowship, WGWVFs will, if feasible, be invited to meet with Professor Wang Gungwu.
- Selected candidates will have access to the ISEAS Library, office space, computer hardware, IT services, and other ISEAS resources as needed.
- Plans for complete or partial cost-sharing will also be taken into account.
Objectives
The Fellowship seeks to encourage scholars to investigate how key world forces relate to and affect Southeast Asia, including:
- Southeast Asia’s reaction to changes in US-China ties.
- Security concerns in the Asia-Pacific region (such as the South China Sea and China-ASEAN relations)
- Developments and prospects of regional and international economic cooperation programs (such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the Belt and Road Initiative)
- China’s rise and its effects on communities in Southeast Asia
- Countries’ use of technology and digital media to further their objectives and sway opinions in Southeast Asian nations.

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Wang Gungwu Visiting Fellowship 2026 in Singapore, you must fulfill these eligibility criteria:
- All nationals are eligible to apply for the fully funded fellowship in Singapore.
- Aimed at mid-career policymakers and post-doctoral scholars.
- Policymakers in their mid-career who do not hold a PhD or a comparable degree are encouraged to apply.
- In their CV or resume, candidates without a PhD should highlight relevant work experience and research interests.
