The establishment of FASPE was shaped by two interconnected sociocultural factors. The first was a growing recognition of the widespread breaches of ethical standards within some of the world’s most respected professions. The second was the challenge of remembrance and education as the Holocaust becomes a more distant historical event. FASPE’s mission is to promote moral leadership and responsibility among professionals, recognizing their significant influence on society. By introducing new fellowships in additional fields and expanding opportunities for mid-career professionals, FASPE aims to address present-day ethical issues. It also seeks to take a more active role in public conversations surrounding ethics in the workplace.
The FASPE Fellowship 2026 provides a fully funded two-week study program in Berlin and Poland, open to applicants of all nationalities. The fellowship centers on professional ethics and ethical leadership, examining how professionals such as doctors, journalists, and lawyers in the past used their skills to reinforce Nazi authority. A key lesson of the program is that true professionalism extends beyond technical ability—it requires moral responsibility and leadership.
